Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine and wellness from India, dating back over 3,000 years! It means, “the science of life”.

  • Ayur = science or art of
  • Veda = Life

Several therapies are used as part of a treatment and include herbs, aromatherapy, massage, and specialized diets.  It has been modified in recent years for use in the spa setting; such as facial treatments, body scrubs, and massages.  Ayurvedic doctors (like Deepak Chopra), have as much education and training as our regular allopathic doctors.

Although, like our medical system, there are many levels within Ayurveda; doctors, practitioners, counselors, therapists, skincare, massage, and even cooks!  I am not an Ayurvedic doctor, but as a Licensed Massage Therapist, Practicing Herbalist/Wiccan, Psychic in training and ex-cosmetologist, use the tools of herbs, oils and massage to open a door to a new way of thinking about you, nature and your body!

Ayurveda flourishes in the tropical southern state of India, known as Kerala.   I have traveled there to attend a week long conference full of workshops and education. It’s a beautiful destination!  And boy, did I get to experience and bring home some great swag!

ayurveda massage, shirodhara, global ayurveda festival, keralaI even made the local paper for the event!  Soon I will have this wooden table, called a “Dhroni” to perform the various Ayurvedic Massage techniques.

I became Certified as an Ayurvedic Massage Therapist in August 2018 through Kairali Ayurveda Center in Mumbai, India.  I trained in 5 specialized techniques.  Me, Dr. Shiney and the entire staff below.  I suggest we have a fun last day and had them all dress in traditional Kerala costume while we danced to some Bollywood songs from my Dance workout!  They all had a total blast!

The key principles of this system of energetic medicine and treatment concern the idea of an underlying universal energetic interconnectedness, the body’s constitution, and a triad of life forces known as the three “Doshas”.  It’s main purpose is to rebalance the body’s skin and internal organs through the application of herbs, oils, creams, massage and exfoliation.

If you would like to find your “Dosha”, take the Dosha Quiz (from my Oil supplier, Banyan Botanicals).   You can email me the results, or leave a note when you book your appt.  I will need this information a few hours before your appointment so I can better prepare your custom formula-which includes special blends of herbs and oils for your dosha, aromatherapy and scalp massage along with serene Indian music for a complete and unique cultural experience!
